Today our fifth graders began using Keynote for the iPad. Using their
"Can't Wait to Read it" paragraphs that they had previously written,
we talked about how a keynote or powerpoint presentation is different
from a written paragraph, essay, or report.
After demonstrating
how to create a single slide for a book they recommend to others, as a
table team they taught each other the basic elements of creating a
slide per book...importing a picture, creating a title, subtitle, and
bullet points for an oral presentation of their title.
We
also plan to add voice to these slides, and use them when we launch
Library Lunches as slides we can upload to Elluminate when we are
talking about great books to read with other students live online. They
can also be posted on our website inside the Bay Farm Book Club,
currently under construction.
Students also learned how
to create additional slides within a keynote deck, and all within about
a twenty minute instructional period, start to finish. Many students
immediately identified this tool as one they want to use for their
classroom project work and presentations. Several students remained
during snack recess to complete their slides today. Success!
